The giflayer API was built to provide a simple, fast and cost-effective REST API for developers to automate the process of converting video to GIF. The giflayer API's system relies on a powerful GIF rendering engine capable of processing video URLs from any major video portal (e.g. YouTube, Vimeo, Vine, etc.) and direct video links containing video of any format, at unparalleled speeds and GIF resolution of up to 30 FPS (Frames per Second).
Integrating our Video 2 GIF API into your application will enable you to generate animated GIFs using a full-featured suite of customization options at your disposal. These include cropping, resizing, creating GIF video trailers, setting start, end and duration parameters, specifying your preferred FPS, and much more. The giflayer API is a product built and maintained by apilayer, an Austrian technology company aiming to help developers, startups and larger companies automate and outsource complex processes by serving them with dedicated and handy programming interfaces.
Our goal is to offer quick and simple access to our software with the objective of speeding up development of your applications and easing the burden on your back-end.
Yes. Depending on the subscription plan you are using, the maximum supported GIF resolution (measured in FPS, Frames per Second), ranges from 10 FPS (Free Plan) up to 30 FPS (HD GIFs, Professional and Enterprise Plan).
Not sure about the difference? Take a look at the FPS Section of the API's documentation.
One word: Fast. Our GIF rendering engine is configured to process large numbers of concurrent API requests, which allows our system to deliver your GIFs within a matter of seconds. However, please note that the time a GIF needs to be generated is highly dependant on the size of the initial video file and your choice of GIF duration.
Since the maximum GIF duration limit of 30 seconds is lifted when working with the API's Trailer feature, longer processing times may apply.
We are constantly working on extending our API's compatibility with 3rd party video URLs. At the current stage, the giflayer API supports all major video portals, such as YouTube, Vimeo, Vine, Yahoo Screen, MyVideo, Facebook, and many more.
One of the key factors to our service's subscription model is the maximum allowed GIF duration. Depending on which subscription plan you are using, GIF duration limits range between 10 seconds (Free Plan) and 30 seconds (Professional & Enterprise Plan).
Among the decisive factors for the giflayer's subscription pricing model is the number of "dedicated workers" provided. A "dedicated worker" refers to a unique server entity being assigned the task of capturing one GIF only. Subsequently, if your subscription plan features 10 dedicated workers, the API enables you to capture, process and store 10 concurrent GIFs at the same time.
Each of the mentioned server entities works independently, allowing us to provide you with the highest possible processing speed for each API request you make.
Every registered user is assigned a personal Access Key, a unique "password" that can be used to access and query the giflayer API. If you are logged in, you can find it in your Account Dashboard and in all interactive links contained in the API's Documentation.
In your Account Dashboard you can reset your Access Key at any given time.
In order to make an API Request, you are required to attach your Access Key to a valid API endpoint URL, e.g: http://apilayer.net/api/capture?access_key=YOUR_ACCESS_KEY
A key factor to this API's pricing model is the number of monthly API Requests offered for each individual Subscription Plan. Requesting the API to capture one GIF will increment your monthly request volume by 1 API request. Please note that due to the large file size a GIF tends to have, generated GIFs are not stored by our systems. As a result, making an identical API request twice will amount to two separate API requests.
Users will be automatically notified via e-mail and on their Account Dashboard once at least 75%, 90%, and 100% of their monthly API Request allowance has been reached.
Since our team is aware that requirements may be very variable, a Subscription Plan's Request volume may be exceeded by a maximum of 20%, which means that the actual hard-limit of - e.g. - the Professional Plan is 6,000, instead of 5,000.
Please rest assured that exceeding the monthly API Request allowance will not cause any additional charges.
The giflayer API's system status is being closely monitored around the clock. Since every effort is made to ensure the highest possible level of consistency, we are happy to announce that our API's uptime is at around 99.9%. At the current stage we are not offering any public statistics, but we will be happy to provide you with recent uptime reports - ask us »
The Free Plan is set out to be a "trial version" without a time limit, offering a volume of 25 monthly API requests.
Paid Subscription Plans feature significantly higher API request volumes, ensure secure datastreams via 256-bit HTTPS Encryption, include unlimited and prioritised technical support, and offer a variety of must-have API functionalities.
As soon as you or your application requires more than 25 API requests per month and more professional API functionality, you would be well-advised to sign up for one of the paid Subscription Plans, starting at only USD 19.99 per month, or at a 20% discount - if you decide to pay anually.
There are two ways to change your payment frequency:
Change it manually 1. Downgrade your subscription to the Free Plan. (don't worry, your current Subscription Plan will remain active until the end of the current billing period) 2. Once the current billing period has ended, hence, once you are subscribed to the Free Plan, upgrade back to your preferred Subscription Plan - you will be asked to choose a new payment frequency.
